› A NEW MAYOR FOR GREAT DUNMOW

2010 - A New Mayor for Great Dunmow - Cllr Wendy BarronThe 10th Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Wendy Barron was elected at the Town Council's Annual Meeting on 4th May 2010.

The Mayor appointed her husband, David, as Mayor's Consort for the coming year, and Cllr Ron Clover was elected Deputy Town Mayor.

The following Sunday, 9th May, a Civic Service was held at St Mary's Church, when the regular congregation was joined by councillors, staff and their families and friends.

The Mayor is organising fundraising events throughout the year in aid of her chosen charities:

  • Uttlesford Community Travel (for which she is a driver)
  • The Uttlesford branch of MIND, which helps people with mental health problems back into the community

She also aims to raise enough money by way of a sponsored walk around the town to buy a shelter box containing vital supplies for victims of natural disasters.

One of Wendy's first official visits was to Dourdan, the French town twinned with Great Dunmow. Closer to home, she is involved in many aspects of Great Dunmow life including the Museum Society, Friends of Dunmow Clinic, Old Manse Community Liaison Group, Traffic Management Group and, as mentioned already, Uttlesford Community Travel. She is looking forward to a very busy but rewarding year ahead.

If you would like to support any of the Mayor's charities, please contact the Town Council.
