The District Council has a statutory obligation to consult the Town Council on all planning applications in the Parish: the Committee undertakes the very important function of making comments about these applications on behalf of the Town Council to the District Council. The Committee also makes, or recommends, comments on highways and planning policy documents, and highways issues generally.

The matters coming before the Committee during the year included:

• Footpath diversions and extinguishments
• Commenting on planning applications
• Great Dunmow Town Design Statement
• Eastern Sector Development & New Town Square Scheme
• Tree preservation
• Road junction at Hoblongs / Chelmsford Road
• Street naming
• Barker Review of the planning system
• Parking in Chelmsford Road and Flitch Industrial Estate
• Parking in the High Street
• Suggested appointment of Tree Warden
• Unauthorised signage at Dunmow East junction A120
• Illegal parking at junctions
• Future of Smiths Farm site, Chelmsford Road
• East of England Plan (Core Strategy)
• Proposed development of Stansted Airport
• Request for pedestrian crossing - Rosemary Lane / The Downs
• Proposed redevelopment of Perkins Garage site, Stortford Road
