WELCOME

Great Dunmow is an ancient market town in north-west Essex with an estimated population (2011) of 8,830. The Town Council consists of 18 members: 9 representing the North Ward and 9 for the South Ward.

Extensive public open spaces are administered by the Council, as well as the E.T. Foakes Memorial Hall, the Dourdan Pavilion and other buildings.

The Town Council actively defends, promotes and represents Great Dunmow – we are working hard to ensure the town motto of May Dunmow Prosper continues to be a reality in the future.

MAYOR’S MESSAGE

It is an honour to continue serving as Town Mayor and to represent a community that is as spirited, generous, and forward thinking as Great Dunmow. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of seeing just how much can be achieved when residents, volunteers, clubs, churches and local organisations pull together with a shared purpose.

Great Dunmow is growing, and it is growing well. Our town’s strength has always been its sense of community, and this year we are seeing that spirit reflected in the projects now coming to life. From new recreation facilities to more community spaces, we are investing in places that help people connect, belong and thrive.

A particular focus for me this year is our young people. We are delivering new facilities such as the multi-use games area and outdoor table tennis tables, alongside improvements to our recreation areas that will support families, clubs and residents of all ages for many years to come.

I am also proud to be supporting this year: the Old Skool Youth Club. Their work is vital and I look forward to championing the difference they make for young people in our town.

Last year, we held our first Emergency Services Day, a celebration of the incredible people who keep our community safe. It was a huge success, bringing families together and giving children the chance to meet the teams who support us every day. I am delighted that we will be hosting it again this year, building on that wonderful sense of pride and connection.

None of this happens without the dedication of our councillors and officers, who work tirelessly behind the scenes. But the most important part of Great Dunmow’s success is you, our residents. Whether you respond to consultations, join a working group, volunteer your time or simply share your ideas, your involvement shapes the future of our town.

As we move forward, I remain committed to listening, learning and working together to ensure Great Dunmow continues to be a place we are proud to call home.
